Welcome and thanks for stopping by!  My name is Michelle and I am a 30-year-old single mother (of a very busy and active 6-year-old daughter named Brittany) trying to live a more healthy, happy, fit and balanced life.  In case you didn’t know… 30 is the new FIT!  I live in Crofton, MD and work full-time as an office manager.

I am starting this blog because I have a new-found love for fitness and nutrition and would love to share my journey with all those that would like to come along for the ride.  I will be journaling my way through some fun times as I tackle a lot of “firsts” this year… my first 50 mile bike ride, my first Warrior Dash, my first sprint triathlon, and my first half marathon… just to name a few, lol.  I am also in the process of researching how to become a Certified Personal Trainer as well as a Certified Wellness Coach.


I have always been somewhat active and knew the importance of exercise, but up until about a year ago I viewed exercise as more of a chore than something that could be fun and energizing.  I also thought I was eating healthy, but soon realized that foods that I thought were healthy actually were not, and that food labeling can very clever and deceiving.  I am now learning how to treat my body better and give it the respect it deserves.  The more I started to read about nutrition and how to read labels, the more I wanted to know!  I now limit processed foods, and try to eat only foods that are natural and organic as much as possible.  Did I mention that I gave up meat about almost 2 years ago… well, actually I still eat seafood (I’m still working on that one).  I am also learning how to listen to my body and eat more intuitively… I am completely amazed at how smart our bodies actually are!

Ok, so about a year ago I got bit by the fitness bug and was all set to be this awesomely (is that a word?, lol) fit women and take on the world.  All of a sudden I had the urge to try new things and wanted to go running, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, you name it!… the only problem was that I felt alone.  None of my girlfriends were interested or thought that any of those activities sounded remotely fun.  I was starting to think that maybe I was crazy for wanting to do these things.  Then like a sign from above, I came in contact with an old co-worker of mine, Layla, who had been posting on Facebook that she was about to do a 5k and was inviting any of her Facebook friends to come along and join her.  We hadn’t spoken in years but something made me reply to her open invitation.  During that 5k we both discovered that we had a lot in common… we both wanted to start living healthier lives and get out and have fun with fitness.  We also knew how hard it was to find friends that also wanted to do these things and how important it is to have a support system behind you to help motivate and inspire you.

We soon started a local women’s fitness group called the Iron Divas and are helping women of all ages and fitness levels reach their fitness goals.  We coordinate all kinds of activities (running, biking, swimming, yoga, pole dancing, kayaking, whatever your heart desires!).  Iron Divas are:  Fabulous Women. Achieving Goals. Layla and I became official GFF’s, and now I want to return the favor and be YOUR GFF!  I hope that you can come here for inspiration, motivation, humor and fun!  Please do not take me too seriously as I am in a learning process myself and am in no way an expert… yet, lol.  I just want to share my stories with you, and let you know that you are not alone and that there are lots of women out here who have the same desires to live a healthier lifestyle.

I also want to encourage you to become someone else’s GFF.  Get out there and have some fun!  Just like a smile, fitness is contagious and can cause a wonderful ripple effect.  It won’t happen overnight, but if we all try to start making small changes our bodies will love us forever for it, and it’s always great to have a GFF by your side to make the journey that much more fun 🙂

    Hello and thank you for stopping by my blog! I really love this idea of GFFs! Most of my real-life friends don’t really share my goals on fitness and especially running, so I got to find virtual friends in the blogosphere! 😉 I am so excited to get to share your blog from the very beginning!

    Yea Michelle! My goal this year is to meet my target weight/size and stick to it. It seems I can always make it but somehow I fall off after a while. Yea for you and your blog…very inspiring!

      Thank you Lee-Ann! I know you can do it, you have really been on a roll and we are all going to have to stick together so that failure is NOT an option. Even when we fall back, we just have to get back up again 🙂

    Totally dig the GFF term too! Having a motiving partner really does a big difference. Way to go with such awesome fitness goals!

      Thank you, not sure how I would make it if I didn’t have a fitness partner to help me along. I have also found such inspiration in reading other blogs and hearing about everyone’s experiences and how they overcome obstacles.
